I am a Buckeye through and through. I was born here, lived here all of my life, and am a graduate of The Ohio State University. I’ve lived in the rural areas of Ohio and in a big city. At least for one week of the year, I can’t stand that state up north. In addition to the Buckeyes, I root for the Browns in Cleveland and the Reds in Cincinnati even though both teams are incredibly lousy. Being from Columbus, I am a huge Blue Jackets and Crew fan. Ohio is seen as a bellwether state in national politics. I thought this was because Ohioans are an honest, pragmatic, and hard working people. Now after seeing how many citizens of my state have been duped by a narcissistic con man, I’m having second thoughts about that.
The political makeup of Ohio is a microcosm of the country. The cities tend to be Democratic while the rural areas are mostly Republican. The mayors of the top 10 largest cities in Ohio are run by Democrats, yet we have a Republican General Assembly and a Republican governor. Trump’s rise in Ohio has been in the more affluent suburbs of the major cities of Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Ohio. This seems odd since the wealthy suburbs tend to be more educated which often leads to support for Clinton. Part of the problem in Cincinnati is they need to keep being reminded they’re in Ohio, not Kentucky. The Clinton campaign has targeted the well-educated and women which may be a good strategy. However, rank and file Republicans can’t stand Clinton. It appears their support for Trump has more to do with thwarting Clinton than electing Donald Trump. This could explain while Republicans seem to be ignoring the feelings of our Republican governor John Kasich who is not fond of Trump. I find it strange that my state, with its midwestern values, has so much hate for Clinton that it’s willing to elect a man who is clearly not qualified to be president.
Here is an election primer for my fellow Ohioians.
Clinton is not:
A liar. Well, she doesn’t lie more than any other politician. This has been a Republican talking point for so long that Republicans believe it. She has been investigated numerous times and has never been found guilty of anything. We’re finding the same can’t be said of Trump as his political foundation has been found to be nothing more that a slush fund.
She doesn’t want to get rid of the 2nd Amendment. This is another Republican talking point and has become part of Trump’s DNA. No liberal wants to get rid of the 2nd Amendment. They do want gun laws that make sense and so does Clinton.
She is not responsible for the deaths in Benghazi. An untold number of investigations spearheaded by the Republicans have said so. Still, as Republicans have proven, if you say something enough times, people will start to believe it. In fact, it is Islamic terrorists who were responsible for Benghazi.
A murderer. She has not killed 47 people. There is absolutely no evidence of this. Let me say that again. There is absolutely no evidence of this. This is something made up by the Alt-right who have no conscience, morals, brains, or critical thinking skills.
Unhealthy. Yes, she had walking pneumonia. So have I. It took a few antibiotics and I was good to go. She has released more information about her health than Trump whose doctor looks like he just rolled out of an opium den. If you went to the Wharton School of Business and you’re so smart, how come your doctor is not from Sloan-Kettering, the Mayo Clinic, or the Cleveland Clinic?
Clinton is a tireless public servant who has fought for the middle class. She was instrumental in getting health insurance for children, securing funds for New York after 911, and fighting against racism in the south. She is the wife of a former president, a former senator, and the former the Secretary of State. She is qualified to be president. As of yet, she has not appeared on a reality-based television show.
Sick. He is a xenophobic, homophobic, misogynistic, racist, narcissistic, conman. As a mental health professional, I can’t say for sure, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t have narcissistic personality disorder.
A liar. It’s amazing that Clinton is seen as the liar. Trump lies on almost a daily basis. He said Japan should have a nuclear weapon then said he didn’t. He said he saw thousands of Muslims celebrating 911, he didn’t. He said he was going deport all illegal aliens, now he’s not so sure. Clinton did not create ISIS (seriously Republicans, she didn’t). He’s going to build a great wall and make Mexico pay for it, even though they have repeatedly said they will not give him a dime. If for some reason it does get built, you know it’s going to have Trump’s name on it in big gold letters. The Great Wall of Trump.
Here are Politifact’s ratings for the two candidates.
He’s 70 years old, has orange hair and the world’s worst comb-over. Come on Ohio. Even his hair is a lie.
A Birther. He lied when he said that the Clinton campaign started the birther issue. They did not. He was a proponent of the issue stating on numerous occasions that he did nor believe Obama was born in the United States. Despite clear evidence that he was. But he’s a smart man. It took him 5 years to admit that he was wrong. What changed in the past 5 years? Nothing. So he had been telling a lie for 5 years. Imagine that my fellow Buckeyes.
A lawbreaker. In 1973 Trump was found guilty of violating the Fair Housing Act. His policies were found to be discriminatory. Trump University is also subject to two ongoing class action lawsuits in federal court. The allegations are that Trump University defrauded its students by using lies to market its services and using aggressive sales practices. In addition, the Trump Foundation is under investigation in New York for possible violations as a charity organization.
He’s a bad businessman. This from the Independent Journal Review. “Trump has a track record of piling up his businesses with unsustainable debt, and then having them file for bankruptcy. Per CNN Money, “no major US company has filed for Chapter 11 more than Trump’s casino empire in the last 30 years.” Under Trump’s leadership, just a few years ago, his company missed a $53.1 million bond interest payment—kind of a big deal. And lest Trump try to delude anyone into thinking that these bankruptcies were all just clever corporate maneuverings with no effects for him personally, note that to pay off creditors, he has had to offload huge shareholdings, yachts, and airlines.”
A racist. Here are some Trump quotes.
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
“And isn’t it funny. I’ve got black accountants at Trump Castle and Trump Plaza. Black guys counting my money! I hate it, the only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes every day.”
He has a white supremacist fan club that he has refused to disavow.
At a campaign rally, Trump remarked that he had a black supporter in the crowd, saying “look at my African American over here.”
When he spoke to the Republican Jewish Coalition he used a stereotype of Jews being astute business people. “Is there anyone who doesn’t renegotiate deals in this room?” Trump said. “Perhaps more than any room I’ve spoken to.”
Trump has called for “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.”
Vladimir Putin’s best friend. Trump’s best friend is our countries worst enemy. Trump has deep financial ties to the Kremlin which Putin has supported. Trump said of Putin, “Putin has big plans for Russia. He wants to edge out its neighbors so that Russia can dominate oil supplies to all of Europe,” Trump said. “I respect Putin and Russians but cannot believe our leader (Obama) allows them to get away with so much…Hats off to the Russians.” Also he said this, “Will he become my new best friend?”
He makes sexist comments. Trump said, “If Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.”
He objectified women on his reality show. One contestant said, “He asked the men to rate the women — he went down the line and asked the guys, ‘Who’s the most beautiful on the women’s team?’ ”
Trump once said, “You know, it doesn’t really matter what [they] write as long as you’ve got a young and beautiful piece of ass.”
From Huffpost: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.
WTF is wrong with you? There is nothing that I’ve written that isn’t fact. Hell, just Google it. How can you vote for a man that has so many flaws? Webster’s doesn’t have enough words to describe them all. For those of you who feel that Trump is out nation’s savior, ask yourself, what actual evidence do I have that my belief is true? I say this with all due respect to my fellow Ohioans who support Trump, get your head out of your asses. If it makes you feel better, you can continue to say you support Trump. But when you stand in the voting booth put your country first and not your ego. Hit the lever for Clinton.
