Ron Paul is Constitutionally Challenged

Ron Paul

I have enjoyed the Republican race to get clobbered by Obama. It makes the contestants say the dumbest things. So far Texas congressman Ron Paul has avoided that. He has a devoted legion of followers despite his racist comments from the 90′s as I pointed out here.

However, yesterday in New Hampshire he said that there’s no provision in the Constitution for Medicare and Medicaid, the federal programs that cover millions of seniors and children.

There are many services the federal government provides that were not explicitly provided for in the constitution. He is ignoring the part of the constitution that says,

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Medicare and Medicaid? What part of the cononstitution that says “promote general welfare” does Ron Paul not understand?
