Last week former Republican Mayor Buck Rinehart came out in support of the .05 percent tax increase for Columbus. Now six other influential members of the GOP have followed suit.
- Franklin County Engineer, Dean C. Ringle
- Former Franklin County Commissioner, Dewey Stokes
- Former Columbus School Board member, Terry Boyd
- Former Columbus School Board member, Jeff Cabot
- Former Columbus School Board member, Dave Dobos
- Rev. Leon Troy
Stokes a former police officer and past president of the FOP said Columbus needs the money for police, recreation centers, and trash collection.
These important city services are the very reason we pay our taxes.
Ringle is worried that if the levy does not pass that the quality of life in Columbus will suffer.
It is much more prudent to pay now in order to maintain our quality of life than to let our city and region decline and then to try to regain our status as a quality place for living, working and raising a family.
However, losing GOP candidate for mayor Bill Todd and the three current GOP candidates for City Council continue to fight against the tax. They believe Columbus needs to manage its resources better, but they give no concrete examples where there has been waste and they have no plan on how to balance the budget.
It looks like the voices of Todd and the city council candidates are starting to be drowned out by a flood of support from the mainstream GOP.
